There at not many
kite spots where you can anchor right next to, but we found Pounda
between Paros and Anti Paros fits the bill. At this spot we have seen
anything from 3 to 30 knots, and used all our kite gear, including
the 6, 8, 10 and 12 kites, twin tip, nugget surf board and the foil.
On the days where the wind was on the light side, I was often the
only kiter our, only sharing the water with surfers.
The spot where we
where anchored was not only popular with kiters, but also had an
irresistible draw to super yachts. The sailing boats in the Cyclades
are mostly over 40 feet, and motor boats under double that size are
rare here. We don not consider SaltyPaws small at all, on the on the
contrary. However, many nights we were the smallest boat out in the
bay. Whenever a smaller boat would drop anchor we cheered the fact
that we where not the smallest anymore, but often that would not
last, as the smaller boats did not like to spend the night in the
open bay.
We had a good laugh
about the the son of the owners of a massive catamaran, whose main
idea of sailing includes riding around on an electric surfboard, and
launching small copters from the fore deck.
Whenever you decide
the kite spot at pounda, I would really recommend the Paros Kite
Professionals at the end of the beach, as the staff at the other kite center was less than
friendly. The beach is also better at the site of the Paros Kite
Professionals.
